Sustainability

New clothes from surplus fabric.
By Baldvinsson creates sustainable children's clothing from surplus fabric and thus contributes to the fashion industry becoming a little greener. Our approach to sustainable children's clothing is based on surplus material. Many large fashion houses and textile manufacturers produce approximately 10% more fabric than they need. It is this excess material that we carefully pick by hand and use for our children's clothing. In this way, many resources are saved in the production of our clothes.

GOTS certified factory.
GOTS stands for Global Organic Textile Standard and is an international certification that means that you meet strict requirements that the clothing is produced in an environmentally correct and socially responsible manner.
Our clothes are produced in our own Indian GOTS certified factory, which means that our clothes are produced without toxic chemicals. It is a certification we are very proud to have! The vast majority of the surplus fabric and yarn we use is organic, but since our materials are surplus fabric, we cannot put GOTS labels on our clothes even if they meet the GOTS standards for organic clothing. This means that you can buy our children's clothing with a clear conscience towards both children and the environment.
We visit our Indian factory several times a year and these visits serve both as a quality control of the factory and a shopping trip where surplus material is bought with great care.

Limit waste.
Since our clothes are made from surplus fabric, it is the amount of fabric available that sets the framework for the number we can make. Therefore, some styles are only available in limited numbers. In this way, we ensure that we use all the fabric we purchase and in this way we minimize wastage of fabric.
We use the small amount of excess fabric in our production for smaller items, for example bloomers, hairbands or hand-sewn tote bags. Our approach to sustainability is therefore about using the existing resources, avoiding gambling and using any waste on smaller things.

Unisex styles extend lifespan.
In continuation of our vision to reduce waste, many of our styles are unisex. This makes it easier for the clothes to be passed down to younger siblings or other family members across genders. In this way, the lifespan of the clothes is extended and you minimize buying and throwing away.
